According to her website, art and color have always been an important part of artist Kay Sorensen’s life. In addition to her formal education, Sorensen devotes time to personal research and development to create original techniques and compositions. Her life has been lived serendipitously, allowing her to develop as an artist. Her primary work the last three years has been creating a major series of ice-dyed tapestries.

Artist Kay Sorensen won her first award when she was in the second grade. She has received recognition throughout her career and has been featured in several publications around the world including the Quilt Expo Europa in Austria, the Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival in Japan and the New York Quilt Festival.

The mastery and use of color are Sorensen’s strongest attributes, according to her website. Pulling from deep within her, she creates each work by letting it tell what it wants to be. According to Sorensen, this is a God-given gift she has nurtured and is privileged to share with others.
