TV Talkers Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski shrieking that ‘madman’ Trump would get us into a ‘nuclear showdown.’ On another channel, TV co-host Joy Behar want him ‘impeached’ before he got us all nuked.

Even though his daughter and son-in-law are Jews, Trump is ‘anti-Semitic”and ‘America’s first neo-Nazi president’ according to TV Talkers, Terry Moran and Bob Moser. Hopefully, at some point you have heard someone discuss or read about “The CEP.” While we sometimes assume everyone knows who we are and what we do, we are reminded that is not always the case. The CEP is an acronym for the Ocala/Marion County Chamber & Economic Partnership (now you know why we use CEP!). We are the community’s chamber of commerce as well as its official economic development organization. The CEP was formed just over five years ago with the merger of the former Chamber and Economic Development Council. While this version is only five years old, our roots go back 130 years to the founding of the Ocala Board of Trade in 1887. [Read more…]

MAJOR CRIMES DETECTIVES INVESTIGATING HOMICIDE IN OCALA

MARION COUNTY, Florida (December 24, 2017)- Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Major Crimes detectives are currently investigating an early morning shooting in Ocala that left one man dead. At approximately 12:00 a.m., on Sunday, December 24, 2017, MCSO deputies were dispatched to the Queens Garden Resort located at 3330 South Pine Avenue in Ocala in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived on scene, they found a black male victim lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. Deputies began performing life-saving measures on the victim until paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. [Read more…]

3 Choirs to perform at Countryside Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 17 at 3:00 p.m.

The Marion Civic Chorale and Countryside Presbyterian Church Choir, both directed by Ryan Pagels  and  the Chancel choir from First Presbyterian Church, directed by David Bedenbaugh will perform on  Sunday, December 17 at 3:00 pm. at Countryside Presbyterian Church, 7768 S.W. Hwy 200, Ocala.  They will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra of local musicians.

The first half of the program will be a sing-a-long of favorite carols followed by “The Gift of Love,”  an original work, written by Bedenbaugh and Pagels.  This is based on the 9 Lessons & Carols.

The public is invited and there is no admission charge but a freewill offering will be taken.

Experience Corps

AARP Foundation Experience Corps unites teachers, schools and older adults to improve children’s academic and social outcomes. This benefits the children, the schools and the volunteers.

The program has been proven to help children who aren’t reading at grade level become better readers by the end of third grade. Last school year, 76 percent of students who were below grade level at the beginning of the year raised their reading and literacy performance by one or more proficiency levels with the help of Experience Corps volunteers. Equine Engagement Initiative

A year ago, the CEP kicked of our Equine Engagement Initiative. As the Horse Capital of the World, we knew we needed a focused and directed effort to engage our incredible equine community with both the broader business community and with fellow equine businesses. Our economic impact analysis of Marion County’s Equine Industry had found that equine contributed $2.6 Billion a year to the local economy!

Thanks to the underwriting support of New Millennium Realty, we were able to kick off this initiative late last year. Louisa Barton joined our team as our Director of Equine Engagement and has done a masterful job at reaching out and engaging equine businesses and educating the rest of us. Our monthly Equine Engagement meetings have out-grown the CEP conference room and must now be held at our Power Plant Business Incubator Training Room so we can accommodate the more the 60 participants who now attend. What a Month Local and Abroad

What a month local and abroad. I have been at several expos and functions. The expo in the Villages was great. I had more interaction with readers than I have ever had. I had about 15 people said they read us. All but one was positive and that was a guy in the Villages that did not agree with one of the writer’s columns, which is fine. The Lady Lake Craft and Business Show under the tent at the St Timothy’s Catholic Church was a great event. Steady crowd from 10 am til 3 pm. I met some new businesses and saw some people I have not seen in a while. It was all fun and good for business.  Commissioner Ruth Kussard  came by to see me. Also Chief McKintrsy came by and said hi. There were also others commissioners that were in the crowd but I did not see them. Honey Baked Ham was selling sandwiches. They were very good and at a reasonable price. There was a vendor from Tampa that had shawls that were really something. They would make Christmas gifts. [Read more…]

Without a doubt, the massacre in Sutherland Springs has captured our awareness that good people trying to worship are now among those vulnerable to violence.

Churches are a safe place for the lonely and vulnerable and welcome all those who enter their doors. Yet, they have a new awareness to the responsibility they have to protect those among their congregations. We owe parishioners security and safety while they worship.

In that spirit, we intend to file the Church Protection bill which is now in drafting. This bill will allow concealed weapons permit holders to be utilized by their church officials to provide security in the event anything should happen.  Many churches can’t afford elaborate professional security staff, but this bill will allow trained citizens, law enforcement officers, veterans, and sportsman to accept responsibility for the safety of themselves and others should such instances occur.
